Rape and Torture Video Goes Viral: 6 People Arrested in Bengaluru Hours After Assam Police Tweet

The Bengaluru Police arrested six people in connection with alleged rape and torture of a woman in a video clip that went viral. The arrests were made hours after the Assam police had put out pictures of five accused on twitter, who can be seen sexually assaulting a girl in a viral video clip. Sharing the screenshots from the clip, the Assam police had sought information on the suspects leading to their arrest.

Bengaluru police arrested the six from Ramamurthy Nagar in east Bengaluru. Out of the six arrested, two are women. A case of rape, assault and under other relevant provisions of law has been registered against the accused in Ramamurthy Nagar Police Station.

“As per the information revealed so far, all of them are part of the same group and believed to be from Bangladesh. Due to financial disputes, the culprits brutalized the victim, who is also said to be a Bangladeshi, brought to India for human trafficking. The investigation is being carried out in full earnestness under the close supervision of senior officers,” Kamal Pant, Bengaluru police commissioner, said.
